Job Description — Delivery Driver
Job title: Delivery Driver Reporting to: Head of Operations and Head Delivery Driver Working with: Other delivery drivers, operations team, bakers, packing staff
The role
The Delivery Driver ensures the accurate and timely delivery and collection of goods for Wild Hearth Bakery. The role also covers vehicle care, flour and supplies management, and ad-hoc support tasks across the business.
Core duties
Packing and loading
- Follow established protocols to ensure accurate packing and labelling of orders
- Communicate any shortfalls or issues on delivery notes and advise by email so invoices can be amended
- Work as a team to ensure a positive atmosphere and efficient use of packing space
- Ensure the bakery is left in a clean and orderly state after loading
- Load vans and ensure loads are well secured before departure
Deliveries and collections
- Deliver a wide variety of items via changing routes, to a schedule
- Follow delivery protocols to ensure customers receive correct orders and documentation
- Collect goods including bakery supplies and third-party products
- Follow all driving regulations and safety standards at all times
- Deal with customers courteously, helpfully and professionally
Unloading and vehicle care
- Unload back at the bakery and ensure all equipment is left well organised in its allocated place
- Leave vans in an orderly state, ready for the next delivery
- Carry out daily and weekly vehicle inspections and complete vehicle logs
- Report any defects or concerns to the operations team immediately
- Carry out scheduled vehicle washing and minor maintenance (e.g. topping up screen wash)
Warehouse and flour management
- Take deliveries of flour and other ingredients into Hut 71; ensure correct storage
- Operate forklift and pallet truck safely and in accordance with training
- Deliver flour and other supplies to the bakery on the agreed rota
- Organise, wash and prepare delivery crates
General responsibilities
- Clock in and out accurately for every shift using BrightHR
- Hold a current, valid UK driving licence appropriate to the vehicles driven; notify the Company immediately of any endorsements, points, bans, or medical conditions affecting fitness to drive
- Consent to annual DVLA licence checks via the share-code service
- Complete the Company's accident report form within 24 hours of any incident
- Work safely and respectfully with all staff; report concerns or safety issues to your manager immediately
- Follow Company fuel card rules and submit receipts as required
Additional tasks (when requested)
- Assisting with pastry packing or slicing during quieter delivery periods
- Deep cleaning
- Maintenance and DIY tasks suited to your experience
- Staffing market stalls or special events (pizza nights, etc.)
- If agreed: supporting Hut 71 with stock control, route preparation, or customer enquiries (attracts a higher rate of pay)
